Savvy Seconds: The Know-It-All’s Plague

1 July 2010 View Comments

Christina is a recent grad from the University of Denver and the creator of TheSavvyGrad.com.  The Savvy Grad is a blog devoted to helping you succeed in the unclear path between college life and the real world.

In a world where knowledge is power we are on a continuous journey to learn. We obtain degrees, receive certifications, and strive to know everything so we can quickly separate ourselves from those around us. I admit that I am guilty of being a know-it-all myself and figured I couldn’t go wrong by learning as much as possible. This is how a majority of the world journeys through life, but does that make it the right way?
An ancient proverb states, “A wise man doesn’t know everything, he just knows where to find the answers. “ Maybe instead of pretending that we know everything, and hiding behind degrees we should be honest about the depth of our knowledge and of our willingness to learn. Rather than taking on the mentality that we know everything as recent grads, maybe we should just align ourselves with others and surround ourselves with resources that can provide the answers.

What do you think?

What type of people do you surround yourself with?
